The Chinese Food and Drug Administration on Friday approved a new treatment to treat the erectile dysfunction, which is so severe that it is painful, lasts for more than three hours and can cause chest pain, fainting and heart failure.
The FDA approved a drug, which the Chinese government called Viagra, for use in treating erectile dysfunction.
The drug is made from the Chinese version of the popular sildenafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Viagra is available over the counter and has been shown to improve sexual performance for Chinese men.
The approval was a victory for those who had been reluctant to take Viagra, said Dr. Shaoqiang Zhang, director of the Department of Urology, and other Chinese medical experts.

Viagra was first approved in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration in 1998, but was only approved for use in men for whom other options had failed. The drug is now available to men from the Chinese-speaking world and is approved for sale over the counter in a few countries.
The FDA also approved Viagra, which is made from the herb "Herbal Viagra," as an over-the-counter drug. It has been available as a prescription-only drug in China since 1998.
Originally developed by Chinese researchers as a treatment for high blood pressure, the drug can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure, leading to heart problems and stroke.
Viagra has been shown to help men who have not suffered the side effects, such as dizziness, headache, flushing and upset stomach.
Although the drug is not approved for treating erectile dysfunction, the FDA is still working with other countries to get approval.
The agency's efforts have also been focused on treating erectile dysfunction in men.
"We believe that this is a new and innovative treatment option that has not been widely used in clinical trials," said Dr. Lu Shengqiang, a urologist and director of the Department of Urology at Guangxi Hospital.
"We want to address the underlying causes of erectile dysfunction, and develop new treatment therapies that could help men and their partners. We have a long-term goal of improving quality of life for men by providing treatments to men who suffer from this condition."
Viagra is now available to men aged 18 to 64 years old, and has been shown to improve sexual performance for men with erectile dysfunction. Men who take Viagra must take it only as needed.
Men should not take Viagra if they have a condition that may lead to erectile dysfunction, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease. Viagra is not for women.
Viagra is not approved for use in women. However, a woman can take it if she or her partner suffers from a condition that may lead to erectile dysfunction. Viagra is not for men under 18 years of age.
The FDA approved the treatment for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in December 1998. The agency has previously approved it for other conditions.

The British men's health group the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (IHCI) are working to identify potential health risks associated with Viagra, and whether these are due to other drugs.
The MRC’s investigation of Viagra (sildenafil citrate) use in men aged 18 to 60 is a joint venture with the International Society for Sexual Medicine and the European Association for Sexual Medicine (ESOM), which was launched in Europe in September last year.
The MRC and IHCI are part of a multidisciplinary consortium to identify and understand potential health risks and to develop and apply pharmacological interventions.
The MRC and IHCI are developing and applying pharmacological approaches to treat sexual dysfunction in men and will help determine whether patients can safely use Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction in men.
“The MRC and IHCI are working together to develop a new approach to address the medical need for medicines to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men,” said Dr John Chilwell, MRC member and head of the MRC’s Sexual Medicine unit.
“We are working together with the ESM to develop and apply pharmacological approaches to treat ED in men who are at increased risk of developing the condition, and whether these are due to other drugs.”
MRC’s investigation found that Viagra had a high incidence of adverse effects in men aged 18 to 60 years, such as headaches, flushing, indigestion, and nasal congestion. The drug was used by more than 1.5 million men aged 18 to 60 years in the UK.
Viagra is the only ED treatment approved by the MHRA, which regulates medical devices for men.
